What is L Colored Diamond?

A diamond ranked “L” on the D-Z Scale of Diamond Color is an L color diamond. Diamonds of this color usually exhibit clear yellow signs, but they are not overly yellow. On the color scale, L Color stands out. L Color is closest to K Color and M Color. K Color belongs to the J-K Color bracket, while M Color is considered yellower than L Color. It’s important to note that L-Color certifications aren’t all the same.

There is no doubt that color grading is an art form that is quite subjective. There are times when even GIA or UGL will grade a diamond as L Color, but re-grade it as K Color.

Is L Color Diamond Good?

Diamonds at the lower end of the color spectrum can be a smart way to save money on your engagement ring without sacrificing carats or cuts. According to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), I color diamonds are classified as “near-colorless”. Only diamonds of D, E, and F colors are considered colorless. All diamonds have a color ranging from white to brown.

A diamond’s color is one of the main factors that affect its appearance when shopping. Observing closely and with carefully controlled lighting, anything below F color diamond may indicate faint color. It is almost always yellow in color. Diamonds can come in a variety of colors, but yellow tint accounts for the majority of non-white stones. It’s difficult to tell if diamonds have any tint in general.

I color diamonds are the third grade of diamonds that are “near colorless”. Near-colorless diamonds range from G to J and are the most popular grades used in engagement rings because of their beauty and affordability. I-color diamonds can look yellow when viewed from the side, but they’re usually white when you look at them from the front. The diamonds will still shine like colorless diamonds despite having a slight yellow tint. GIA does not consider their color to be “faint”. It is only with color grades K, L, and M that color starts to show in diamonds.
